Why climb a tree that's on fire?

Why climb a tree that's on fire? Because sometimes it's the only way to save a 2,000 year old giant Sequoia. Once at the top, firefighters, arborists, forest ecologists, and smokejumpers check for embers, and if needed, lop off burning limbs. This dangerous work keeps the fire away from the canopy of trees, and can help prevent the spread of wildfires. Saving these majestic trees not only helps the environment, but preserves a large part of the West's history and cultural heritage.
